Qualifying for Telework - The "Office 2000+ "
Project at the German Society for Personnel Management
Together with the Institut der deutschen
Wirtschaft Köln the German Society for Personnel Management (Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Personalführung - DGFP) has redesigned an office area,
re-structured work organisation and introduced teleworking in order to
cater for the demands of a company providing services to personnel management
in the new century. This has lead to an increase in productivity
and employee satisfaction and improvement in services to customers.
Limited office space combined with
expansion of a subsidiary company forced DGFP to investigate new methods
of working. The directors soon realised the advantages teleworking would
bring to their company but were then faced with reservations from the
employees which they felt they could not overcome alone. Together with
the ADAPT project TELESKOP from the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft
Köln they planned an eight month project for qualifying teleworkers and
re-designing the work organisation and facilities.
During the training the potential
teleworkers were actively involved in stipulating requirements for the
re-design of the office space and work organisation. This involvement
helped to reduce the apprehensions about the introduction of telework
and has meant that the concept Office 2000+ has been successfully
implemented and positively accepted by all concerned. The DGFP management
is very content having introduced telework in the enterprise and is grateful
for having been able to benefit from the tailor made training and counseling
support of the TELESKOP project by the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft
Köln.
