European Telework Week 1997

Israeli Teleworking Association looking to Europe

The Israeli Teleworking Association was established this spring, following the initiative of the national telecomms company Bezek and of the former Chief Scientist of the Communications Ministry, Dr. Shlomo Tzach. It currently has about 100 members, mainly companies providing telecomms equipment and services, as well as public bodies, private consultants and other interested parties.

We have set up several working groups, including:

Projects -- aimed at coordinating actual teleworking projects and finding suitable partners to initiate and run them.

User Interface -- to make recommendations about suitable equipment & services for teleworking projects, & to write user manuals.

Government Liaison -- oto make recommendations to the government on issues such as tax breaks for teleworkers, regulation etc.

Because we are a new body, we won't be ready to take part fully in ETW97, although we will be holding our first conference on Nov. 25, mainly for association members; during the course of this, I hope we will be able to run at least a live video conference with a suitable European teleworking expert. Following this, we will have a larger-scale national telework conference, run in cooperation with one of the major national newspapers; and in this, I hope we will be able to discuss cooperation with EU projects.

If anyone in European teleworking is interested in further information, or in finding Israeli partners for projects (we are full members of the Fourth

Framework and so eligible for full membership in projects), please contact David Nordell  directly by e-mail  nordell@actcom.co.il
