The event, which took place in the Dutch Capital Amsterdam, involved two days of workshops and a public conference on the final day. Papers were presented by over 60 leading academics and consultants in the field, from 13 European countries, as well as Canada, United States, Australia and Japan. The presentations and papers spoke to the four key workshop themes - firstly, on the innovation and implementation issues in telework; secondly, on new international experiences and cases in telework; thirdly, on `virtual team' issues and the problems of inter-organisational collaboration; and fourthly, on the new social and management dynamics created by new, virtual ways of working.
The final day conference heard reports from the two prior days of workshops. These were preceded by speeches covering Dutch experiences and initiatives in teleworking and new forms of work design, European developments in teleworking, and the efforts of US institutions to promote new technology test beds and international collaborations in virtual innovation.

The workshop was co-hosted by Tilburg University, the Netherlands, and Brunel University, UK, and sponsored by PTT Telecom, The European Commission, DG XIII, the European Telework Development Initiative, Interpolis Insurance, BT, and the Dutch Telework Forum.
