The idea is to commerate ETW ‘97 with a special phone card with common designs in as many countries as possible. At this time, participation is confirmed from: Telecom Italia, France Telecom, Belgacom, Telia, CABITEL, and TeleDanmark. Others have also been approached but at the time of going to press no decisions have yet been taken. The designs are the result of real teamwork by the children of Piquecos (the kindergarden and pupils of two classes aged 9 to 11, in total 45 children. Piquecos has 307 inhabitants. Schooltacher Pierre Valade uses one old Mac to keep the children on the Web and together they have been active for over two years now. School visitors from over 100 countries visit those pages and Piquecos has been on French radio and TV as a case of use of INTERNET for education. The children of Piquecos "see" the Teleworker as a Snail carrying a PC in his house. However some adults see the snail as too slow for Telework. However, after hearing about the adult visions, the children produced successive versions of "faster" snails (see right or http://www.ac-toulouse.fr/piquecos) The success of this project, growing from an idea at a regional ETW 97 launch in May, is due to a race against the clock and the enthusiasm given by the ETD national coordinators and their counterparts in the telephone companies. The full story will be told on the phonecard web site due to be launched around the publication date of this newsletter. http:// www.telcard.net will be on all cards and will be the meeting point where all other links from each card supplier will appear on the first page. Telecom Italia already has its site in place http://www.tin.it/tiv/cards/catalogo95/mai n.html |
