EUROPEAN TELEWORK WEEK AND BEYOND IN THE UK. TELEWORK WORLD 97 As part of our increasing move to work co-operatively with other teleworking organisations in the UK, this year, instead of running a potentially competitive event, we are collaborating with Telework Events (whom we also partner in the UK Telework Platform). The result we hope will be a better attended and broader event. Our contribution to the event has been to help bring in speakers, assist with assembling information and raising awareness. We have negotiated a major discount on the price of the conference for TCA members in order to increase its attractiveness. The three day event covers a broad range of subjects including technology, human issues and property. The TCA AGM is to take place on the Wednesday. We have also assisted Telework Ireland to identiy speakers and other content.for their event planned following ETW though no date has yet been confirmed. VIRTUAL CONNECTIONS We have offered to organise videoconference feeds from the Telework World conference. Sony have offered support on this. We have also discussed providing this to some of the UK telecentres with videoconferencing for part of the event. As part of an Irish event we will link to the West Cork Telework Network to provide a remote question and answer session. The Teleworking Handbook is planned to launch during ETW using virtual connections. In addition to the main event the TCA is in the process of setting up links into one morning of the conference with a view to experimenting with videoconferencing bridges and web-casting to bring the contents to a number of virtual participants. Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th November, Teleworking Your Business. Telework Ireland Annual Conference. Includes the launch by Forbairt - the Irish industrial development agency - of its new "Teleservices" brochure, which it has produced in conjunction with Telework Ireland, the launch by Ireland's leading business news paper - the Sunday Business Post - of its "Small Office/Home Office of the Year Award 1998" and the launch, also by the Sunday Business Post of its "Web Site of the Year Award 1998" For details contact : KITE, Cornagun, Kinawley, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, N.Ireland BT92 4FR tel : 01365 348943 fax: 01365 348944 email : 100073.1111@compuserve.com OTHER EVENTS FOLLOWING ETW As a result of exploring a number of possibilities, we will be speaking at Tomorrow’s Workplace in November at Oxford Brookes University in November. The UK Telework Platform (a collaboration of Telework Interest Groups) is planned for launch in November - we will support this and provide copies of the Teleworking Handbook for UK MPs. As a result of negotiations to set up a virtual event we hope to hold a seminar focussing on telecottages and telecentres working with the RATIO project (EU supported project to set up 40 centres in the West Country).
