Among the many events provided for the European Telework Week 1998, the main event concerning people with disabilities will be the collection, throughout Europe, of best practices of actual working integrations of disabled into companies, public institutions and Universities

INSIEL (Finsiel-Telecom Italia http://www.finsiel.it) and the Italian partner of ETD (European Telework Development) (http://www.mclink.it/telelavoro ) organise this gathering with the supervision of DG XIII of the European Commission (http://europa.eu.int/en/comm/dg13/13home.htm).

This task is accomplished in the ambit of ISdAC (Information Society disAbilities Challenge http://www.isdac.org ), which is an organisation of People with Disabilities managed by PwDs whose aim is to facilitate a successful access of disabled to the Information Society. In 1997 ISdAC (of which Insiel is a co-founder) received the Telework Week award for the most original contribution to Telework by the European Commission.

This sort of "investigation" will not be neither a "census" nor a "sampling" of best practices. In fact this investigation cannot (and doesn’t want to) have a strict scientific approach but rather a pragmatic approach as its objectives are:

a) to have some concrete knowledge of the sectors in which disabled have more possibilities to be integrated in environments of work (both as teleworkers or as "normal" workers using ICT);

b) to have concrete knowledge of the employers who have engaged people with disabilities and, possibly, of their future programs about this aspect;

c) to know better the type of education which has led disabled to have a successful integration in the world of work;

d) to collect possible suggestions, expressed in free text, by the employers as regards the problems encountered for the real integration of disabled in the world of work.

The results of the gathering will be published on the ISdAC, ETD, Commission etc. webs (probably also in other languages beyond English) and maybe in a booklet.

The main objective of this questionnaire (that has to be filled completely in order to be considered) is to be aware of the state-of-the-art of the integration of PwDs in work by means of the use of ICTs and provide some suggestions and advices for better results in the Information Society.

All the information obtained from this questionnaire will remain confidential (unless you declare your interest in giving publicity to your experiences) and will be used to adapt and ameliorate our knowledge of disability and work.
