Java Compatibility

We have received comments that  a minority of visitors using early versions of Netscape are having problems with the ETW site because their browser is experiencing difficulty reading the simple Java scripts used for navigation.

We appreciate that there is a view that web sites should be built for the lowest common denominator and not use Java, Shockwave and other WWW enhancing facilities. However, to create a simple analogy, this is like saying that we should not build autobahns because two or three people still drive Trabants!

If you are using very early versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer we would recommend that you upgrade them to a minimum of their respective versions 3. To access the Netscape site go to http://www.netscape.com; to access Microsoft's IE area go http://www.microsoft.com. In each case, follow the respective links, make your mind up about which of the latest "flavours" you want and download.

If you have V3 of either browser, ensure that you have Java compatibility enabled. We cannot give precise instructions how to do this with each version as have been innumerable "builds" but you will generally find the configuration details within the preferences section.
