Lisbon ,23-25 September
| Senior policy makers and telework practitioners gathered to
advance the discussion on telework issues and policy. The participants were
a greater mixture of familiar and unfamiliar faces than in previous years.
The conference attracted more than 350 attendees, not only from around Europe but from around the world. There were representatives from Eastern and Central Europe, mixed with representatives from Japan, Canada, Brazil and the USA. The opening plenary session Wednesday afternoon, set the tone of the proceedings with powerful support from Portugal, represented by Eduardo Rodriques (Minister of Labour and Solidarity), José Lello (Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities), Marian Ago (Minister of Science and Technology) and Vincente Collada (Deputy Director General of DGXIII of the European Commission). This was reinforced by Andrew Miller (UK Member of Parliament), who also carried a strong message of support from Tony Blair, the UK Prime Minister (click here for copy) The second day provided five parallel work groups,
It would be impossible to cover all these sessions here, but although there was some coverage of well-trodden paths, there was a strong forward-looking vision and international perspective. What was not absent was the rain! It contrived to make every external activity as difficult as possible. Nevertheless, we must congratulate the organisers who ensured that the wheels continued to turn effectively.
