TOM K (Telearbeit Oberes Mühlviertel

Description of activity:
TOM K is a project which helps to promote telework in the
region of "Mühlviertel". The project has been initiated because of the
following reasons:
- Border-crossing dimension
: Kollerschlag is situated in
the triangle Austria - Bavaria - Czech Republic.
- High amount of commuters
: 62 % commute to areas of
industrial concentration every day.
- Innovative approach
: the project is innovative and will
have a lasting effect.
Participants:
A working group has been installed with the
following members:
- Mayor of Kollerschlag
- Representatives of the local government of Kollerschlag
- Representatives of the OÖ Datenhighway Entwicklungs-GmbH
(ODE)
- Government of Upper-Austria
Target groups:
SMEs in general, commuters living in the region of
"Mühlviertel"
Objectives:
The objectives of the project are to
- minimize migration
to the areas of industrial
concentration
- promote telework
in the region of
"Mühlviertel"
- set up
an employment agency for teleworkers
- set up
a telecenter in Kollerschlag in order to
provide teleworkers with the necessary infrastructure
- support awareness creation
in the field of teleworking
- create synergies
between different initiatives, thus
enhancing a network of initiatives in the region
- help to make SMEs faster and more successful
in
implementing telework solutions to improve their competitiveness in global markets.
Achievements:
- Organisation of five events (seminars) in the region.
The aim of these events were to create awareness in the field of teleworking. 150
attendees.
- Conception of an employment agency for teleworkers
- Survey concerning the willingness of implementing telework
in SMEs situated in the region of "Mühlviertel". 200 companies were
contacted.
Detailed description:
The project was started in july 1997 upon initiative of the
local government of Kollerschlag and the OÖ Datenhighway Entwicklungs-GmbH (ODE). A
working group consisting of representatives of the two initiatives was formed.
Marketing material such as logo, folder, poster etc. were
created in order to enable a professional and successful promotion of the project.
5 awareness creation events were organized in the region
with about 100 visitors. Many people showed interest in participating in the project.
In spring 1998 the conception phase of the employment
agency of teleworkers started. The first draft for a telecenter was developed.
A partnership with EUREGIO (cooperation of initiatives of
Austria, Bavaria and the Czech Republic) was established in order to promote the
cross-border dimension of the project.
The post of a Regional Manager was installed, whose main
task is to guarantee the smooth running of the employment agency for teleworkers.
Within the next year the set up of 20 new telework jobs in
the region is planned.
Description of project coordinator:
The OÖ Datenhighway Entwicklungs GmbH (ODE) is an
innovative Austrian telecommunication company founded 1995 with international background.
Our main focus is the realization of electronic Commerce projects for private companies
and public administrations from consulting to technical implementation. The second focal
point of ODE is to initiate Telematics Pilot Projects dealing with relevant issues in the
context of the information society.
