Telework Awards 1999:
Short-listed Nominees
On September 25th at the Telework’99
European Assembly on Telework in Aarhus ,Denmark, an entry of 26 nominations
from 10 European countries was reduced to a short-list of 17 candidates
for the European telework awards. Below is a brief description of each
of the nominated projects.

France Telecom “PC Nomade”
An A to Z turnkey solution for Corporate Business
sales force teleworkers in France Telecom (France)
Solution for nomadic teleworkers,
already used by France Telecom salesmen from the Corporate Products and
Services Division (target 800 people). This solution has been packaged
as an A to Z solution, including training (tutorials) for teleworkers
and managers.

Teleworking in Danica (Denmark)
Implementation of telework in a Danish Insurance Company.
In parallel with the introduction of telework, the organization and business
processes were and will continue to be changed. Initially 150 out of 250
agents have chosen to work from home.

Teleskop (Germany)
Teleskop is providing
a Public Information Service for SME’s interested in Telework. Teleskop
(an ADAPT project) tackles the difficulties behind introducing telework from
the point of view of providing the decision makers in SMEs with the knowledge
necessary to make a qualified decision about the implementation of telework.

TeletreBages
The main aim of the project is to introduce telework
in the Bages County. To achieve this goal, the project counts with the
participation of public and private entities. Two major studies have been
elaborated, one focused on the competence of teleworkers, and, the other
focused on the possibilities of telework in the companies of Bages. Those
studies have helped to design of the training (courses and CD-Rom) and
advisory activities. The project have also carried out diffusion activities
(exhibitions, conferences and seminars) as well as innovative activities
such as virtual markets.

project was submitted by the Municipality of Naples within the framework
of the ADAPT Community Initiative. The project aims to anticipate the
organization and production changes. It also aims to respond to the needs

The Project New Pathways”” is a
project that via Open Data Centres is offering admittance to distance
learning courses primarily to socially excluded citizens. This includes
persons who are without work and must be activated, persons who must be
rehabilitated and early-retired pensioners who via the information and
communication technology can find new possibilities to re-enter the Labour
market.

Study of the traffic reduction (Netherlands)
Inspired by the ICT policy document
by the Ministry of Economics Affairs, Media Plaza came up with the idea
of linking the emancipation of the electronic highway with the solution
of social problems, one of which is traffic jams. This problem could be
tackled with the help of teleworking. The aim of the traffic reduction
plan is to get 10,000 people presently commuting between Amsterdam, Utrecht
and The Hague by car to work at home during rush hour in exchange for
a fast Internet connection and multimedia PC.

A telework trial using ADSL

This project describes a trial of
telework using ADSL technology associated to phone over IP, co-operative

Boogie: Teleworking
at France Telecom (France)
The project explains how are used solutions called
Boogie like videoconferencing, video on demand, synchronous cooperative
tools, remote groupware tools and data bases (Espace Coopératif) for virtual
teams. In average, France Telecom through Boogie is having 1400
to 1600 sessions of video-on-demand per month and 2500 people are using
the Espace Coopératif on an everyday basis.
